Dustin Norman enters his fourth season (2018) as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the SMU men's soccer program.
In his first three seasons on the Hilltop, Norman helped the Mustangs rank as high as No. 8 nationally and return to the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Round of 16 in both 2015 and 2017. He has helped mentor and develop players to 13 All-American Athletic Conference selections including the 2015 AAC Offensive Player of the Year, 2017 Defensive Player of the Year, 2015 and 2017 AAC Midfielders of the Year, 2015 and 2017 Goalkeeper of the Year and the 2016 AAC Freshman of the Year.
In his time at SMU, Norman has also coached a two-time NSCAA All-America first team honoree and two-time MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in
Mauro Cichero, as well as nine Mustangs to NSCAA All-Region Teams.
Norman has also been credited for recruiting SMU's 2016 and 2017 signing class which included the 2015 Oklahoma Gatorade Player of the Year and two members of the United States Youth National Team.
Norman came to SMU following three seasons as an assistant coach at Oregon State where he mentored five all-Pac-12 players and 12 all-league academic selections. Norman served as lead recruiter at OSU where his efforts brought in the No. 6 recruiting class for the 2014-15 season. During his time, he advanced the program to the highest NCAA Division I ranking in 10 years (#14) and a historical first NCAA Tournament win in program history. He was primarily responsible for player development for forwards and attacking players, including forward Khiry Shelton, No. 2 overall 2014 MLS Draft Pick and Hermann Trophy Finalist, midfielder Will Seymore, 2014 MLS Draft pick, forward Emory Welshman, 1
st round 2013 MLS Draft Pick, and forward Timmy Mueller, 2014 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and NSCAA All-American.
Prior to his stint at OSU, Norman spent time at two additional Division I programs in Houston Baptist (2008-12) and Mercer (2006-08).
In his time with HBU, Norman helped a newly reinstated program climb in the conference ranks and establish a position in the NCAA after formerly competing as an NAIA program. He coached 19 All-Atlantic Soccer Conference selections, as well as eight members of ASC All-Academic teams. He also contributed to the performance of the 2010 ASC Rookie of the Year who was also named an NSCAA North Atlantic All-Region honoree.
HBU made it to the ASC title game in 2010 and the semifinals in 2011 and 2012. During the 2010 season, the Huskies went undefeated in conference and swept the conference awards.
During his first coaching stop, he spent one season at Middle Georgia College in Cochran, serving as an assistant for both the men’s and women’s programs.
Norman earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee, in 2005. On the field he was a three-time all-conference selection, leading his team to three Great South Atlantic Conference titles. He was a two-time MVP and had 36 career goals and 22 assists. Norman also completed his master’s degree in business administration during his time at Mercer.
