Ryan McCabe joined the SMU Athletics Compliance Staff in 2010 and now serves as the Senior Associate A.D. for Governance & Internal Affairs. 

In his role, McCabe oversees the Compliance Department and staff and serves as the Athletics liaison to various campus constituents including, but not limited to: Financial Aid, Residential Life and Student Housing, Registrar, Enrollment Services, and others. McCabe serves as the day-to-day liaison for the football and golf teams.

McCabe was named a Director of Compliance for the SMU Athletics Compliance Office in fall of 2013. He was responsible for educating coaches, staff and student-athletes about NCAA legislation. In addition, he monitors SMU’s 17 sports programs to ensure that they are meeting current legislation and following the industry’s best practices to avoid NCAA rules violations.

Prior to serving as a Director of Compliance, McCabe was an Athletics Coordinator for Compliance and Life Skills following an internship at SMU. As a Coordinator, McCabe was responsible for educating athletics interests and monitoring various aspects of recruiting, playing and practice season legislation and eligibility. He was also responsible for the Department’s Life Skills program. The Life Skills Program’s primary focus is to foster the growth of SMU student-athletes academically and athletically with emphasis on personal growth, academic and athletic excellence, career development, and community service. 

McCabe, a former football student-athlete and coach, earned his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2006. He also earned his law degree from Texas Wesleyan in May 2010.

Originally from San Antonio, Texas, McCabe currently resides in Dallas with his wife, Meredith, and their children, Mark and Mallory.
