The SMU track & field team got results at the Oklahoma All-Comers Indoor Meet Dec. 4. The Mustangs set two facility records, achieved four NCAA Qualifying marks and won five events at the meet.
Junior thrower Libor Charfreitag won the 35-pound weight throw with a personal best and NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark of 74-9 - the third best throw in NCAA history that broke the Mosier Indoor Facility mark he had previously set in 1998. Four-time NCAA All-American Xavier Tison placed second in the event with a NCAA provisional mark of 68-2.5 and sophomore Peter Mitsides completed the sweep with a throw of 54-9.5.
Junior Florence Ezeh, the defending NCAA Hammer Champion, led a Mustang sweep of the women's weight throw with a 66-3.75 mark that also broke the facility record and automatically qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Freshmen Julianna Tudja and Lianne Coombe placed second and third with respective throws of 53-7.5 and 53.4. Coombe also won the women's shot put with a mark of 45-9.25.
Other event winners included junior Roman Oravec and senior Mustapha Raifak. Oravec, a three-time NCAA All-American, won the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:39.24 and Raifek provisionally qualified for the NCAAs with a jump of 7-1 in the high jump. Also of note was sophomore Miriam Masekova's school record setting 1:23.90 in the 600 yard run.
The Mustangs will return to the track Jan. 14 at the Houston Invitational.
