LOUISVILLE, Kent. (SMU) -- The ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championship began today and kicked off with the heptathlon. Renee Finke currently sits fourth following the first day of competition.
Finke placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.91. Brentley Preston also had a personal best time, running 16.66. Finke placed fifth and Preston placed 7th in the high jump.
In the shot put, Finke placed fifth with a throw of 11.93 meters, and Preston had a personal best throw of 9.33 meters. The pair continued their day of personal bests in the 200 with Finke running 25.47 and Preston running 27.49.
Finke's score after day one sits at 3,274 and Preston is at 2,505.
Kirin Chacchia won her heat of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 57.57. This earned her an automatic qualification to finals and ranks her third going into Saturday's race.
In the 1,500, Macey Hilton ran 4:23.86 and placed 21st. Freshman Elizabeth Smits made her outdoor championship debut, running 4:33.69.
Carolina Correia ran her first 10,000 of the season and moved into sixth all-time at SMU. The freshman ran 34:34.74 and placed 14th.
Day two will begin again with the heptathlon at 10:45 a.m. (CST).
