Colorado Springs, Colo. -- It was another overtime game for the SMU women's soccer team on Sunday afternoon as the Lady Mustangs prevailed over Arizona State by the score of 2-1 in Colorado Springs, Colo. It was the third straight game in which SMU was taken to overtime (the most consecutive overtime games played in the program's history). With the win, SMU improves to 3-1 while ASU falls to 1-1-2 on the season.
SMU got on the scoreboard first as freshman Stephanie Sewell recorded her first goal of the season at 23:16 off an assist from sophomore Jill Heinemann. ASU knotted the game at 1-1 five minutes later when freshman Manya Makoski scored an unassisted goal. In overtime at the 98:22 mark, sophomore defender Sasha Andrews headed in an indirect kick from Misty Noland to give SMU the victory.
The Lady Mustangs continue their road swing with a game vs. Oklahoma (4-0) Friday night in Norman, Okla. Gametime is set for 7:30 p.m.
