Huntington, W.V. - Marshall women's soccer fell to the first place SMU Mustangs by a score of 4-0 at Sam Hood Field .
"The team played a full 90 minutes tonight. The players gave a hard effort and I am proud of them," head Coach Chris Kane said.
The Herd held the Mustangs to one goal in the first half. The goal came in the eighth minute of play from Kristen Moran on a short breakaway play. Marshall gave SMU a scare early in the half when Ali Lizotte (Elgin, S.C./Spring Valley) put a shot just over the crossbar.
In the second half SMU showed why they are the first place team in the conference by scoring three goals in the half. The first goal of the second half came when Olivia O'Rear dribbled the ball to the goal line and passed to Autumn Browning for the finish. O'Rear assisted the third goal of the match when she kicked a corner and Carley Phillips finished. Caitlin Carter scored the final goal of the match unassisted. Marshall held the conference second leading scorer, Kimber Bailey, goalless in the match.
