DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team collected its fourth consecutive shutout victory Friday evening with a convincing 4-0 win over visiting UAB at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU. With the win, SMU improves to 13-4-1 overall (7-1 C-USA) while UAB drops to 8-8-1 overall (4-3-1 C-USA).
SMU quickly got on the scoreboard at the 7:51 mark when junior Olivia O'Rear tapped the ball in off a Krystal Bailey cross for her thrid goal of the season. SMU increased its lead to 2-0 when sophomore Autumn Browning heel-kicked the ball into the net off an Olivia O'Rear free kick on the left side of the field at the 20:37 mark.
The Mustangs continued their scoring run in the second half when Krystal Bailey won a one-on-one battle with Blazer goalkeeper Katie Forbis at the 50:16 mark. Browning tallied her second goal of the game at the 63:56 mark with a shot that hit off the post and deflected into the net to give SMU a 4-0 lead.
Mustang goalkeeper Ashley Gunter stopped four Blazer shots on goal and recorded her fifth shutout this season.
The Conference USA regular-season title is on the line as SMU closes out the regular season Sunday afternoon with a contest against the Memphis Lady Tigers (12-5, 6-2 C-USA) who defeated Tulsa Friday evening by the score of 1-0. A Mustang victory assures at least a tie for first place.
