Pompano Beach, Fla. - SMU junior golfer Colt Knost won the prestigious 75th Annual Dixie Amateur Championship today, firing a four-round total of 276 to claim a three-shot win at Palm-Aire Country Club.
Knost, a 2004-05 All-Conference player for SMU, won two events last season and was also the 2003-04 Conference Freshman of the Year.
The Dixie Amateur is one of the oldest amateur golf championships in the United States. The Dixie Amateur was first played at the old Miami Country Club in 1924. The Dixie Amateur is rich in history and tradition attracting many of the best amateur golfers from the United States and International players invited from over 30 golf federations around the world.
Titleist/GolfWeek awards points towards National Rankings in all divisions. The Dixie Amateur is a "stepping stone" to the PGA, LPGA and NATIONWIDE Tours, with former winners including Bruce Fleisher, Lanny Wadkins, Hal Sutton, Len Mattiace and Jesper Parnevik.
Knost and the rest of the Mustang golf team return to the course Feb. 22-24 at the John Burns Invitational in Honolulu, Hawaii.
