DALLAS (SMU) - Members of the SMU women's golf team have continued their great play into the summer, as three current student-athletes and one incoming freshman have performed well in recent events.
Sophomore-to-be Lacey Jones leads the group, as the Oklahoma native shot 75 at Rose Creek Golf Club in Edmond, Okla., last week to qualify for the U.S. Women's Pub Links Championship. Jones finished second by one shot to current Oklahoma State standout Ali Griffin. The Championship is set for July 11-16 at Swope Memorial Golf Course in Kansas City, Mo.
Incoming freshman Kate Ackerson and junior-to-be Whitney Eckert also attempted to qualify and shot 78s at Firewheel Golf Park and both are now alternates for the event.
In European play, junior-to-be Kristina Rothengatter played in the British Women`s Amateur recently, where she won her first round, 4-and-3, before falling 1-up in round two. She also competed in the French International Ladies Championship, carding a 73-72-74-71 to place sixth.
Junior-to-be Jennifer Ackerson finished ninth in the Texas Women's Open, shooting 72-74 at Eastern Hills in Garland.
