DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's golf team opens its season this weekend when they head north to East Lansing, Mich., for the Mary Fossum Invitational, Sept. 17-18, at the Forest Akers West Golf Course on the Michigan State campus.

The Mustangs will be led into the 2005-06 season by standouts Laura Cross and Jennifer Ackerson. Rounding out the Mustangs' top five are Ashley Deatherage, Lacey Jones and Kristina Rothengatter.

The event is set for three rounds and features 15 schools. Teams scheduled to participate include Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Princeton, SMU, Toledo, and Wisconsin.

The tournament begins Saturday with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m. Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday and conclude the event with 18 holes on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m.
