Falcoln Heights, Minn. - The Mustangs headed north to Minnesota to compete in the 20th annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Rachael Forish led the way for SMU finishing the 6k course in 22:15.
Corpus Christi native Jessica Jackson got out strong and was second for the Mustangs running 22:47. Sophomore Krystal Rodriguez finished in the third position covering the course in 23:03.
Rounding out the top five scorers were red-shirt freshman Magan Moore, and true freshman Anne Gustafson who ran their first 6k race in 23:10 and 23:49 respectively.
Western State transfer Sierra Anderson challenged teammate Anne Gustfason to the end, finishing only one second behind her in 23:50. Also competing for SMU was Rachel Barber who completed the race in 24:15.
"This meet gave the ladies a great big meet experience. With some of the top teams in the country competing, it let the them know they can go out there and compete with the best. We are excited for the rest of the season." said coach Cathy Casey.
SMU's next meet takes place on Saturday, Oct. 1, at the North Texas Invitational in Denton, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
