In game one, the Mustangs made an early run, but it was not enough to put away Memphis as they took over and cruised to the, 30-20, win. There were two ties and two lead changes in the game. The Mustangs seemed to get their momentum going in game two at the beginning but could not continue the drive. Except for the first few points, the Mustangs led through a series of points but lost their edge at the, 9-9 mark. The game saw five ties and five lead changes, all of them happening before the 9-9 mark. Memphis posted a five-point rally late in the game to help pull over the Mustangs, 30-18.
In game three, the Mustangs came out with a spark. They led the whole game and when Memphis battled back for the only tie of the game at 14-14, SMU kept their momentum going and sailed to the, 30-24, win, diminishing the late sparks Memphis had. The Mustangs nailed 18 kills in game three for an average of .342 while they held Memphis to only 10 kills, averaging out to .024. Through four ties and four lead changes, the Mustangs continued to challenge Memphis for the lead. SMU continued to put together different point variations including a short run of unanswered points near the end, but it wasn't enough to overcome Memphis as they fell, 30-26.
This concludes the Mustangs four-match road stint as they return home for matches against UTEP and Tulane next weekend.
