DALLAS (SMU) - SMU Volleyball will host Texas at Moody Coliseum in the second annual Showdown at the Net on Wednesday, Sept. 9, ESPN Events announced Thursday morning.
The showdown is one of 16 matches between Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and Southeastern Conference (SEC) volleyball programs from Sept. 8-10.
The Mustangs swept eventual national champion Texas A&M in Moody Coliseum in last year's event. Jadyn Livings led the way with 14 kills and Favor Anyanwu added eight blocks in the straight set victory.
SMU has been in three consecutive NCAA Tournaments, reaching the Regional Semifinals for the first time in program history last season. Texas reached the NCAA Tournament for the 22nd consecutive season and advanced to the Regional Final a year ago. The program has been to 22 straight NCAA Tournaments and has won five national championships.
Texas leads the overall series 5-1, with the Mustangs' lone win coming at home in 2000. The Mustangs are 1-1 inside Moody Coliseum against the Longhorns.
The last regular-season matchup between the two schools was in 2011.
The challenge series continues to spotlight the growth and national appeal of women's college volleyball, bringing together elite competition in a prime-time setting across ESPN platforms. Times and networks for the 14 matches taking place from Sept. 8-9 will be announced at a later time.
