Davis Takes Co-Defensive Player of the Week Honors

IRVING, Texas (C-USA/SMU) - SMU freshman libero, Candice Davis was named Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week. She shares the honor with Yvette Kirk of Rice. Davis totaled 71 digs and set a career-high with 32 digs against Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday while Kirk averaged 6.07 digs per game last week with a career high 34 against Houston. Tulane's Sara Radosevic claims this week's Player of the Week honor and Rice's Rachel Lopez repeats as Setter of the Week.

Davis totaled 71 digs for the week, averaging 5.46 digs per game. The freshman set a career-high of 32 digs against Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday and then came close to breaking that record again with 31 digs on Sunday against UTEP. Davis totaled four service aces for the week including two against SFA and added four assists and one block assists. She currently leads the team in digs this season with 299, good for a 3.99 digs per game average.
