WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (SMU) - The first night of competition at the US Open did not disappoint as four Olympians (Katie Hoff, Michael Phelps, Margaret Hoelzer and Cullen Jones) took down marks in their respective events. It was a successful day as well for several members of the No. 7 SMU women's swimming and diving team as they all clocked respectable times.
Anja Carman placed 32nd in the 400 free with a time of 4:26.70 and Tamara Sambrailo touched the wall for 31st place in the 100 breast with a time of 1:14.26. Carman swam her second event with a 26th place finish in the 200 back and a time of 2:21.55.
Former swimmer and current volunteer assistant coach for SMU, Martina Moravcova captured the 50 free title clocking in at 25.65 while sophomore Petra Klosova touched the wall in ninth-place with a time of 26.26 for a season best time. Angela San Juan Cisneros clocked in at 27.19 for a tie at 40th place while Michelle Vlasakova timed in at 27.31 for 50th place and Celina Lemmen swam for a time of 27.73.
The swimmers will jump back in the waters in the morning with prelims and then will conclude the night with finals.
