Men's Tennis Prepares for Three Upcoming Matches

DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs are preparing to compete in three matches over a four day period. SMU will host Cornell Thurs., 23 at 2 p.m. before heading to the home courts of Baylor and Texas for the weekend. The Mustangs are currently 10-3 on the season.
The first match-up for the Mustangs will be Thurs. against Cornell who is 7-4 on the season. The Big Red will face SMU on the last half of their four-match spring break road trip. For the first match, Cornell fell to UTA, 4-3 and then they head to Tyler JC for a meeting today. The Big Red will then come to Haggar Tennis Stadium to take on SMU and will wrap their trip up at Texas in Tyler. Cornell is lead by sophomore Joshua Raff who is 12-7 on the season and ranked #124 in ITA singles. The duo of Raff and Nicholas Brunner are ranked at #80 in ITA.
SMU will then head to Waco to take on #6 Baylor Sat., March 25 at 6 p.m. The Bears are 10-4 on the season and have five ranked singles and three ranked double duos. Freshman Matt Brown is ranked #120, junior Michal Kokta is #59 and sophomore Lars Poerschle leads the way at #12. Juniors Vladimir Portnow and Matija Zgaga are ranked at #92 and #31, respectively. The doubles combination of Kokta and Poerschke are 5-0 at the No. 2 position this season and are ranked #49. While the duo of Kokta and Will Ward are 6-2 this season and ranked #21. Jon Reckewey and Zgaga pair for a record of 11-7 this season and a ranking of #43.
The Mustangs will then head to Austin to take on #5 Texas as this match was previously scheduled earlier in the season but due to heavy rains was rescheduled for this weekend. The match is slated for Sat., March 26 at 4 p.m. The Longhorns are 8-1 on the season as they are lead by Travis Helgeson who is 19-7 on the season and ranked #20. Callum Beale and Roger Gubser are also ranked at #30 and #36, respectively. The duo of Gubser and Hubert Chodkiewicz are ranked #47 and are 7-2 on the season while Helgeson and Michael Venus pair for a record of 10-2 and ranking of #28.
