Mustang Golfers Continue Strong Play

June 23, 2006

PUEBLO, Colo. (SMU) - SMU's Laura Cross shot 74-77 to tie for 36th and advance to match play at the 2006 U.S. Women's Pub Links at the 6,263-yard, par 72 Walking Stick Golf Course. Cross then bested Sara Hester of South Carolina, 6 & 5, to advance to second-round play. Cross will take on Glory Joo Young Yang of Murrieta, Calif., in the round of 32.

In other women's golf news, sophomore-to-be Kate Ackerson shot 71-74 to finish second among amateurs at the Texas Women`s Open at Eastern Hills Country Club this week, while incoming freshman Sarah Dodson, sister of SMU All-American men's golfer Will Dodson, advanced to the finals of the Oklahoma Match Play Championship.

Additionally, the team has been invited to the NGCA Match Play Championship for next fall.

"I'm very proud of the way our student-athletes are playing this summer," said Head Coach Todd Selders. "It's also a tremendous honor to be invited to the Match Play Championship. We're very excited about the upcoming season."
