DALLAS (SMU) - Rachel Giubilato led the Mustangs past Louisiana-Monroe, 3-0, (30-16, 30-16, 30-22) in day two of the SMU Radisson Hotel Invitational. The Mustangs advance to 2-0 on the season with another match tonight against Auburn to conclude the Invitational.
Giubilato calculated an attack percentage of .636 on 33 attempts and 23 kills, placing her in second-place on the all-time career leaders list. She also holds third place with a percentage of .613 from 2004. Also with her 24.5 points today, she now ranks second in all-time career point leaders.
With 44 kills on 88 attempts, the team notched an attack percentage of .409, taking second place in the team all-time leaders.
SMU got off to a quick start as they notched almost 20 points before ULM could break double-digits in game one. Giubilato marked 11 kills in the game while Caitlin Rainbird counted six digs. Freshman Candice Davis registered five digs for the game.
In game two, the Mustangs posted an attack percentage of .586 as they notched 19 kills and 12 digs. Giubilato posted seven kills and two digs in game two while Natalie Peters marked six kills. Stefanie Kons and Daivs both had three digs for the game.
ULM began game three on top, taking their first lead of the day for only a brief time. After the score flipped-flopped through several series, the Mustangs sealed the win as they rallied by dishing out five unanswered points late in the game.
After concluding the Invitational against Auburn tonight, the Mustangs will travel to UTSA on Tuesday, August 29 for a 7:00 p.m. start.
