The Mustangs were unable to overturn ECU as they fell tonight, 3-1. SMU is now 10-7 on the season and 1-3 in C-USA play. Caitlin Rainbird posted a double-double performance with 14 kills and 17 digs.
Rachel Giubilato posted 23 kills on the night with five digs. Kendra Kahanek added 11 kills and six blocks while Adrienne Zielasko also had six blocks.
Then Mustangs were not able to get going in game one as ECU took the early lead. SMU developed a run at the end, but it was not enough to pull ahead as they fell 30-24 in game one. The Mustangs began game two on the right foot but ECU slowly closed the lead. The Mustangs put together eight unanswered points in the middle of the game and then a series of three points near the end to topple the Pirates, 31-29.
SMU came out with a spark in game three but ECU quickly gained control. The Mustangs put together short runs at the end of the game but it was not enough to get past ECU as they fell 30-17. In game four, the Mustangs could not get things to work their way. ECU took the early start and then maintained the lead through out the game for the 30-17 win.
The Mustangs will take on Marshall, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in Moody Coliseum.
