DALLAS (SMU) - Senior midfielder Ben Shuleva scored a pair of goals Friday night to lead the No. 9 SMU men's soccer team to a 2-2 tie at No. 23 Tulsa. For his effort, Shuleva was named Conference USA Co-Offensive Player of the Week.
Shuleva shared the honor with Marshall's John Daniele.
The goals were the first two in two seasons with the Mustangs for Shuleva, who has been a dominant defensive force for the Ponies since he transferred to SMU from St. John's.
Shuleva gave the Ponies a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute Friday night when he converted an assist from senior midfielder Scott Corbin. He later put SMU ahead, 2-1, with an unassisted goal in the 54th minute. The senior midfielder was also selected to the CollegeSoccerNews National Team of the Week.
Shuleva and the Mustangs return to Westcott Field at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 3, when they host Missouri State. For a complete schedule and ticket information, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
