EDMOND, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team is in fifth place following the opening round of the Oklahoma Intercollegiate at the par-71, 7417-yard Oak Tree Golf Club. SMU shot a team total of 307 and is just 11 shots back of leader and 19th-ranked Texas A&M (296). The 54-hole event features a field of 11 teams that includes four squads ranked in the top 35 in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches poll.
Individually, freshman Kelly Kraft started out well, carding a 4-over 75 to stand tied for fifth place. Draegen Majors and Ben Tewes both shot 77s and are tied for 16th, while Arwed Fischer also stands in the top-25 at 23rd after carding a 78. James Minahan rounds out the SMU team in 41st at 81 and Nicholas Soglanich, playing as an individual, is in 27th at 79.
Eighteen-hole rounds will be played Monday and Tuesday, with each commencing at 9 a.m. CT.
