Birmingham, Ala. (SMU) - Senior midfielder Allison Brill scored her third goal of the season Friday night, but it wasn't enough as the SMU women's soccer team fell, 3-1, at UAB.
Brill's goal ties her with sophomore forward Kim Peabody and freshman forward Kristin Medeiros for the team lead.
The loss drops the Mustangs to 5-6-1 overall and 1-4 in Conference USA games, while UAB improves to 6-6-1 overall, 2-2-0 in C-USA.
UAB got on the board first, when Jill Porto converted a pass from Danya Barsalona in the 14th minute of the game, giving the Blazers a 1-0 lead that held up until halftime. In the second half, UAB extended its lead on a Sally Palmer goal in the 67th minute.
But Brill cut the lead in half about 10 minutes later, collecting an assist from senior Kimber Bailey - her team-high fourth helper of the season - and buried it in the 77th minute.
The Mustangs almost matched their hosts in shots, as UAB unloaded 11 shots - five shots on goal - while SMU fired nine shots, including four shots on goal. Brill topped the SMU offense with five shots, while freshman goalkeeper Meagan Boyle registered a pair of saves in her first career start.
The Mustangs now head to Memphis, Tenn., for a Sunday afternoon game against the Memphis Tigers, before returning home to take on Rice Friday night and Houston Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field. For ticket information and to see a complete schedule, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
