Women's Soccer Drops Tough Road Game, 1-0

EL PASO (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team peppered the UTEP goal with 18 shots Sunday afternoon, but surrendered the only goal of the afternoon in a 1-0 loss at UTEP. The Mustangs are now 5-3-1 overall and 1-1 in Conference USA games; the Miners improved to 8-4-1, 2-0 in C-USA games.

The Mustangs held a 9-5 advantage in shots in the first half, but the teams headed to the intermission locked in a scoreless draw. Jo Radcliffe scored the game's only goal when she headed in a corner kick b y Cortney Casey in the 68th minute.

The Mustangs outshot the Miners, 18-11, led by senior midfielder Kimber Bailey's four. SMU also got seven saves from junior goalkeeper Ashley Gunter. Much of the game was played in the UTEP end of the field, as the Ponies earned six corner kicks, to just three for the Miners.

The Mustangs now return home to face Southern Miss at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 12 and Central Florida at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 14. For ticket information and to see a complete schedule, log on to SMUMustangs.com.
