AUSTIN (SMU) - In a meet that is capped at 800 swimmers, members from the SMU men's and women's swimming and diving team demanded to be noticed. The Mustangs complete competition on the first day of the 2007 American Short Course Championships in Austin, Texas.
The Mustang relay team of Luka Vrtovec, Shane Milu, Alex Hetland and Thomas Fadnes posted a season-best time of 1:20.11 in the 200 free relay to claim second place. Pontus Renholm, Justin Smith, Jani Brackett and Travis Callaghan touched the wall in fifth-place with a time of 1:25.39.
In the 100 fly, Angela San Juan Cisneros and Justine Clark swam for the women. San Juan Cisneros tied for third with a time of 54.85 while Clark touched in at 55.24 for fifth. On the men's side, Brett Denham posted a time of 49.72 to finish eighth while Josh Cohen placed 22nd with a time of 52.09.
Chris Ginder finished 12th in the 500 free with a time of 4:37.54. In the men's 200 IM, Maverick Smalley swam a time of 1:50.48 for seventh-place while Nate Clark touched in right behind him in eighth place with a time of 1:50.58. Daniel Veale placed 24th with a time of 1:57.32.
Milu swam in the 50 free and clocked in at 20.56 for ninth-place and Fadnes finished 15th with a time of 21.01. Brackett touched the wall in 29th place with a time of 21.33 and Callaghan touched in at 21.60 for 35th place.
The Mustang relay teams took first and second in the 400 medley relay with time of 3:14.98 and 3:20.84.
