HOUSTON (SMU)--The men's tennis team dominated its first weekend of play for the 2007 fall season. The Mustangs traveled to Houston for the Rice Invitational, where they won the tournament title.

SMU's victory was highlighted by a very strong showing by senior David Kuczer in Flight A singles action. Kuczer knocked off opponents from LSU and Tulsa to win his bracket.

"Despite extremely difficult weather conditions, David played the best tennis of his life," said head coach Carl Neufeld. "He's put himself in a position to be a national champion and an All-American this season because he played at a level of tennis he's never played at before."

In B Flight singles, Adolfo Solares fell to Andy Connelly of Tulsa, but picked up the consolation win over Dennis Polyakov of Rice.

Taylor St. Eve won C Flight singles, defeating opponents from Lamar and Tulsa in straight sets.

Darren Walsh prevailed over Prairie View A&M and teammate Brian Griffin to win D Flight singles.

In doubles action, the B Flight pair of Walsh and el Enfendi beat the doubles teams from Prairie View A&M and Rice.

"All our red shirt freshmen did well," said Neufeld. "It was great to see them with such strong performances after all the work they've put in over the last year."
