DALLAS (SMU)-- In this year's only regular-season televised match, the SMU Mustangs host the Marshall Thundering Herd this Friday, Sept. 21 at Moody Coliseum at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Mustangs downed the Syracuse Orange in a five-game thriller to open action at the New Hampshire Invitational last Friday, Sept. 14, bringing their record to 9-3. Saturday, Sept. 15, SMU faced the Holy Cross Crusaders, beating them in three-straight games. After a seven-hour break, the Mustangs took on host New Hampshire, dropping the match in three, 0-3. SMU finished the weekend with a 10-4 record and Rachel Giubilato and Kathryn Wilkerson were both named to the All-Tournament team.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Marshall is favored to win the Conference USA Champsionship this season, but has started 7-7 in 2007. Last weekend, the Thundering Herd beat West Virginia, 3-1, but fell to Pepperdine, 1-3. Marshall regrouped and deafeated Akron in three straight games.
Outside hitter Kelly-Anne Billingy leads the Herd with 4.76 kills per game and .341 hitting. Setter Elizabeth Fleming has amassed 684 assists for the season, averaging 12.44 per game. Libero Maggie Arias has compiled 218 digs in 2007, averaging 4.19 per game.
ABOUT THE SERIES: The Mustangs and the Herd have met twice before, with Marshall winning both matches. These teams last met in 2006, when Marshall swept the Mustangs in three games at Moody Coliseum.
