DALLAS (SMU) - Sophomore Kristin Medeiros scored her second goal of the season Sunday afternoon, but it was not enough, as the SMU women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to visiting UAB.

After the teams battled through a scoreless first half, the Mustangs got on the board first when Medeiros settled a long crossing pass from freshman forward Devon Herrman and sailed a long shot from the left side into the upper right corner of the goal to give the Ponies a 1-0 lead in the 57th minute.

But the Blazers battled back, getting a pair of goals from Carolyn Polcari in the 70th and 82 minutes to tie the game and then move into the lead.

"Kristin scored a really good goal," SMU head coach Brent Erwin said. "We created so many good scoring chances - it's just a shame we don't come away with a better result.

"It was heart-wrenching. I told the team they played great. We did everything to win the game, and came up short."

The Mustangs now head to Orlando, Fla., to face UCF at 6 p.m. (central time) Friday night before returning home for their final home game of the season at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon against Southern Miss.
