DALLAS (SMU)--The SMU men's tennis team swept the weekend, beating Abilene Christian and Southeastern Oklahoma State Sunday, taking their overall record to 4-1.
In the first match of the day, the Mustangs defeated Abilene Christian, 6-1. SMU took the doubles point after Oivind Alver and Chris Hooshyar teamed up at No. 1 to beat Nunez/Hudson, 8-4. Darren Walsh and Taylor St. Eve dropped their match to Joiner/Proctor 9-8 (3). At No. 3, Robin Fahgen and Adham el-Effendi defeated Jones/Farias 8-2, winning the doubles point.
The Mustangs continued their winning ways in singles. Robin Fahgen continued his success at No. 1 as he defeated Nunez in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4. At No. 2, Skrypko faltered and lost a hard-fought match against Hudson, dropping the match in three sets, 3-6, 7-6, 6-7. Alver won at No. 3 after Hawk defaulted in the third set.
Adolfo Solares picked up where Fahgen left off, defeating Farias at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 5, St. Eve beat Joiner 7-6, 6-3. Walsh wrapped up the match for the Mustangs at No. 6, defeating Proctor in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.
Against Southeastern Oklahoma State, the teams didn't play doubles, but the Mustangs weathered the Savage Storm 6-0.
At No. 1, Alver defeated Disley in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1. Hooshyar picked up a win at No. 2, beating Ramos 6-0, 6-0. At No. 3, Walsh defeated Ryashchenko in a hard-fought battle, 7-5, 7-5.
el-Effendi beat Buchanan in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, while St. Eve defeated Hiraoka at No. 5, 6-0, 7-5. Bryan Griffin picked up a win at No. 6, completing the Mustangs' sweep, blowing past Freitas in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
