MUNCIE, IND. (SMU) - Senior goalkeeper Ashley Gunter made seven saves, including five in the second half, but it was not enough as the SMU women's soccer team fell to Ball State, 2-0, in Muncie, Ind., Sunday afternoon.
SMU continues to get significant contributions from its talented freshman class, as first-year players Kaitlyn Eidson, Mary Connally and Devon Herrman led the SMU attack with two shots apiece.
Ball State got the game-winning goal from Olivia Ramirez in the 35th minute and an insurance goal in the 55th minute on a rebound, but the rest of the game was fairly even.
The Mustangs head to the west coast next weekend, where they will face defending national champion USC - ranked No. 1 in the nation in the current National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll - and Cal State Fullerton before returning home to Westcott Field to open the Conference USA season Sept. 26 when they host Colorado College.
