SMU Cross Country Wins Season Opener

FORT WORTH (SMU) - The SMU Cross Country team had a very successful opening to its season, Saturday at the inaugural TCU Cross Country Season Opener. As a team the Mustangs finished in first, 12 points better (30) than the next closest team, host TCU (42). The course was a two-mile run around LaGrave Field in Fort Worth.

Winning the meet for SMU was Kristine Eikrem-Engeset, who finished with a time of 11:05. Coming in next was Sara Sjokvist, just 10 seconds behind a 11:15. Mary Alenbratt placed fourth with a time of 11:42 and Kathleen Hoogland was the final Mustang to place in the top-10, crossing the finish line at 11:49.

The Mustangs will return to action next Saturday in College Station, to compete at the Texas A&M Invitational.
