SMU Finishes Tenth At Jerry Pate Intercollegiate

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team finished in tenth place at the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate today at Old Overton Club. The tournament had one of the toughest field's that the Mustangs will see all year, with seven of the 12 teams ranked in the Top 50 according to GolfStat.
The team combined to shoot a 300-286-296—882, 42-over par for the tournament. Harry Higgs finished tied for 13th after carding a 70-72-74—216, 6-over, while teammate Max Buckley finished two strokes behind him, tying for 18th.
"Unfortunately, we didn't play our best the past two days," said SMU head coach Josh Gregory. "We have to get a lot better, but this will be great motivation for us to get better. Fortunately, we get to tee it up again right away. We will progressively get better throughout the year."
SMU will be in Akron, Ohio next week as the team competes in the Firestone Invitational from Oct. 10-11.
