KAHUKU, O'ahu (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team shot an opening round 289 and sits in third place after the opening round of the John Burns Intercollegiate at the Turtle Bay Resort's Palmer Course.

SMU was led by Kelly Kraft and Max Buckley, who shot 69 and 71, respectively. Kraft is tied for third individually, while Buckley tied for eighth. Texas A&M's Conrad Shindler and California's Max Homa share the lead at 68.

No. 10 Texas A&M and No. 23 California carded 283s to tie for the early lead.
