WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. (SMU) - SMU rallied to post a strong day one at the Southwestern Invitational and now sit in a tie for third place.
Facing a field that includes all thirteen teams in the top 100 and eight teams ranked in the top 50 including SMU. The Mustangs started slow before finding the groove in the final two thirds of the day. The Mustangs climbed the late Monday leaderboard all the way into a tie for third, trailing only UNLV and host Pepperdine. They finished the day ahead of six top 50 teams.
Fresh off a victory in the Jones Cup,
Will Sides shot his 11
th round of par or better this season in just his 13th round. He carded a 69 to hold a share of ninth. He rebounded from his first hole hiccup, and shot three-under the rest of the way including birdies on three of his final four holes of the front nine.
Gabe Post also sits in a tie for ninth place. He shot a 69 including an eagle on the par five 532 yard 12
th hole. The score marked the first round in the 60s of his collegiate career. He will be looking for his best collegiate finish on the final two days.
One shot back of the two leading Mustangs sits
Christian Clark. He carded a 70 on the day with just two bogeys. It was his 10
th round of par or better on the season. He holds a share of 15
th.
Zachary Kingsland shot a 73 with four birdies. He sits in a tie for 39

Matthew Foster played the final 10 holes at three-under par including an eagle on the par five, 485 yard 15
th hole.
The Mustangs return to the course for the middle round on Tuesday.
