IRVING, Texas (SMU) - SMU's Silje Fjortoft was named Conference USA Co-Female Cross Country Athlete of the Week by the league office, today.

Fjortoft, a senior from Orsta, Norway, won the gold medal this past weekend by running a 2-mile event in 10:31 at the UT-Arlington Invitational. This qualified as one of the fastest times ever recorded on UTA's course at Vandergriff Park.

Fjortoft's first-place finish was her second-consecutive win this season, and helped SMU to win the UTA Invitational as a team by 5 points over TCU.

The Mustangs return to action on Friday, Sept. 16, when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to compete in the UTSA Ricardo Romo/Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic.
