AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) - SMU senior swimmer Denisa Smolenova had one of her strongest performances of the season as she earned two top-eight finishes at the Austin Grand Prix over the weekend. Smolenova came in fifth in the 200-meter butterfly, clocking in at 2:11.68. The butterfly specialist placed seventh in the 100-meter event, touching the wall with a time of 1:00.43.
Senior Therese Svendsen also had a solid showing, placing fifth in the 100-meter backstroke (1:02.06) and seventh in the 200-meter backstroke (2:13.27).
Freestyle standout Nina Rangelova earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle, clocking in at 1:59.97. The sophomore won the bonus finals, and was 17th overall, in both the 50- and 400-meter freestyles, finishing the events in 26.24 and 4:14.13, respectively.
In the 200-meter breaststroke, freshman Rachel Nicol won the consolation final, taking ninth place overall, with a time of 2:30.94. Nicol took 11th place in the 100-meter breaststroke finishing the event in 1:10.70.
Fellow newcomer Isabella Arcila continued her impressive rookie season with a pair of top-15 finishes. The freshman took 13th in the 100-meter backstroke (1:03.67) and 14th in the 200-meter backstroke (2:16.59).
Senior Raminta Dvariskyte came in 11th in the 200-meter breaststroke, clocking in at 2:32.88. She also placed in the 100-meter breaststroke, finishing the event 13th with a time of 1:12.89.
Freshman Erica Donadon placed 15th in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:38.45) and 17th in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:12.73).
Eleonor Lindborg was 22nd in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:04.56.
The Mustangs compete at Houston in a dual meet on Jan. 21 at noon.
