WELLINGTON, Fla. (SMU) - SMU sophomore Julianna Fischer was the reserve champion of the consolation bracket of the 2012 FTI Winter Equestrian Festival at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center on Friday.
"Julianna was an absolute star today," head coach Haley Schoolfield said. "She had great rides and I was so proud of the way she represented SMU."
Fischer, who competed in equitation over fences, was edged by Maggie Earle of Texas A&M, 85-84, in round one. The Wellington, Fla., native then drew Amy Lang of New Mexico in the opening round of the consolation bracket, and Fischer had a dominating 84-75 decision. In the second round, Fischer earned an 86-83 victory over Nellie Foosaner of Miami of Ohio. Fischer fell to Carolina Cramer of Tennessee-Martin in the consolation finals.
Fischer and the No. 10 Mustangs return to BuckBranch Farm on March 2 to square off against South Dakota State.
