DALLAS (SMU) – No. 6 SMU Equestrian is set to begin its spring season with a home meet against No. 7 UC Davis on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 12 p.m. CT at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
The dual on Wednesday is the first of two meets this week, followed by a home battle against No. 3 South Carolina on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. CT.
The Mustangs have gone undefeated against the Aggies, posting a 5-0 series record. The teams last met on Nov. 18, 2023, when SMU claimed the 11-9 victory at UC Davis.
In their most recent meet on Nov. 14, 2025, SMU earned the win over then-ranked No. 9 Baylor on the road, finishing with a final score of 11-6. Three Mustangs left Waco with MOPs: Augusta Iwasaki (Fences), Violet Shetler (Horsemanship), Sara Beth Filiatreau (Reining).
The same riders took home all four MOPs against then-ranked No. 5 Texas A&M on Nov. 13, 2025, with Iwasaki earning both honors in Jumping Seat.
Iwasaki is currently second in program history for most career MOPs with 18 and first in active career MOPs. The captain ranks first at SMU for all-time MOPs in Fences with 15. The senior also is tied for the fourth most Fences wins in a single season, earning 12 victories in the 2024-25 season. The Jumping Seat rider has had three consecutive double-digit win seasons.
After the fall season, Shetler is tied for the most Horsemanship MOPs in the NCEA with three. Filiatreau and freshman Madison Rafacz lead the team in Reining MOPs with two each. SMU has swept the Western MOPs in every meet this season. Continuing their Western dominance, the Mustangs have now earned 22 straight Horsemanship MOPs, dating back to the 2024 season opener against TCU on Sept. 20.
