Mustangs Compete At The Indy Grand Prix

INDIANAPOLIS (SMU) - SMU women's swimmer Therese Svendsen earned two top-five finishes as the SMU swim teams competed at the USA Swimming Indianapolis Grand Prix this week. The backstroke-specialist placed fourth in the 100-meter event, touching the wall in 1:02.31, and finished fifth in the 200-meter with a time of 2:14.60.

Fellow senior Denisa Smolenova also had a solid performance in her final meet as a Mustang. Smolenova tied for fourth place in the 100-meter butterfly, clocking in at 1:00.01. She finished seventh overall in the 200-meter butterfly, swimming the event in a time of 2:12.56.

Sophomore standout Nina Rangelova had a strong showing, advancing to the finals in three events. Rangelova took second in the consolation final, 10th overall, in the 400-meter freestyle (4:14.00), was 11th overall in the 200-meter freestyle (2:00.72), and placed 20th overall in the 50-meter event (26.01). She also competed in the 200-meter individual medley (2:25.12).

Freshman Isabella Arcila continued her impressive rookie season earning a pair of 10th-place finishes in the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes, finishing in 1:02.90 and 2:16.08, respectively.

Senior Raminta Dvariskyte was 10th overall in the 200-meter breaststroke, placing second in the consolation final with a time of 2:31.81. She came in 18th in the 100-meter breaststroke, clocking in at 1:11.98.

Freshman Eleonor Lindborg took 24th overall in the 200-meter backstroke (2:22.50). She also competed in the 100-meter backstroke and 100-meter butterfly.

Svendsen, Dvariskyte, Smolenova and Rangelova led the Mustangs to the top of the medal stand in the 400-meter medley relay, winning the event in 4:13.70.

Also competing for the women were Monika Babok (50-meter freestyle), Erica Donadon (100- and 200-meter breaststrokes) and Emily Vavourakis (50- and 100-meter freestyles).

On the men's side, Mindaugas Sadauskas finished seventh in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 49.98, just behind U.S. Olympian Michael Phelps who placed second (48.74). The senior came in 13th overall in the 50-meter freestyle, swimming the event in 23.25.

Also competing for the men were Julian Fletcher (100-meter breaststroke) and David Larsson (50- and 100-meter freestyles).
