NASHVILLE, Tenn. (SMU) - Junior sprinter Craishia Washington led the Mustang sprinters with a fourth (7.53) place finish in the 60-meter dash and a sixth place (24.92) finish in the 200-meter dash as the SMU indoor track and field team competed on day two of the Vanderbilt Indoor Invitational in Nashville, Tenn. SMU had 17 individual top 10 finishes throughout the invite.
"It's all about progression towards the conference championship and this weekend was an excellent step in the right direction," director track & field Dave Wollman said. "We are all really happy with our progress weekend."
In addition to Washington, junior Stephanie Kalu finished first in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.34 seconds. She also crossed the finish line in 13th (24.92) in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Rachel Scruggs and senior Isis Wilson finished seventh and 12th with times of 56.24 and 57.26, respectively in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Helena Perez and Junior Rayann Chin led the Mustang throwers as they placed fifth (15.34m) and sixth (15.12m) in the shot put.
In the distance events, freshman Tova Magnusson led SMU in the 3000-meter run as she placed sixth with a time of 9:43.94. Sophomores Holly Archer, Karoline Skatteboe and Melanie Stemper placed seventh (9:44.92), eighth (9:45.90) and ninth (9:46.12) in the same race, respectively. In the one mile run, freshman Agnes Sjöström placed ninth as she crossed the finish line in a time of 4:58.27.
SMU is back in action on Feb. 2 to compete at the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas.
