Heise Named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) - Morgan Heise was named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after averaging 7.11 digs per set in a pair of road matches at Temple and Connecticut.
The sophomore had 36 digs in four sets at Connecticut, which ranks fourth all-time in a match at SMU. She also recorded a career-high 38 digs, which ranks third at in a match at SMU, at Arkansas earlier this season. Heise had 13 digs in the third set alone.
At Temple, Heise had 28 digs as the Mustangs recorded 111 as a team, the most by an American Athletic Conference team this season and second most in conference history (117 by Memphis at Tennessee State - Oct. 17, 2013). The Hempstead, Texas, native also finished the weekend without any serve receive errors in 57 attempts.
Avery Acker was named to this week's Player of the Week Honor Roll after recording her league-best 16th and 17th double-doubles. She finished with 54 assists and a career-high 25 digs at Temple, assisting all five SMU attackers to double digit kills. The junior from Poth, Texas, tallied 49 assists and 18 digs at Connecticut, averaging 11.44 assists and 4.78 digs per set on the weekend.
The Mustangs play at Tulane Friday at 1 p.m. before concluding a stretch of four straight road matches at Houston Sunday.
