RESULTS

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU cross country team's quest for a conference championship four-peat came up short on Friday, as they finished third in the American Athletic Conference Championship. The 6K race took place at the Mohawk Sport Complex in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Three Mustangs earned all-conference honors by finishing in the top 15 of the 85-runner field.

Sophomore Agnes Sjöström led the Mustangs, finishing fourth for the second consecutive year with a time of 21:40. Juniors Shanoah Souza and Holly Archer also garnered all-conference honors for the second straight year. Souza placed seventh (21:10) and Archer crossed the finish line ninth (21:18).

Rounding out the SMU top five were junior Melanie Stemper and sophomore Julie Vanderhout. Stemper placed 24th (22:05) and Vanderhout finished 37th, setting a new personal 6K record with a time of 23:06.

Junior Claire Trotter and sophomore Margaret Brennan also competed for SMU. Trotter finished 47th, clocking a time of 23:26, a new personal record. Brennan placed 59th (23:57).

Tulsa took home the league title, while UConn finished second. Emily Durgin of UConn won the individual title.

SMU will have next weekend off before returning to action for the South Central Regionals in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on Friday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. CT.
