Ackman, Burnett Shine On Final Day Of Art Adamson Invite

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – The SMU men’s swimming and diving team concluded the Art Adamson Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M, on Saturday night at the Student Recreation Natatorium.

Senior diver Devin Burnett and freshman swimmer Matt Ackman were standouts for the Mustangs on the final day.

Burnett recorded a third-place finish, his third of the weekend, in the platform dive to begin the day.  Burnett’s score of 375.75 was just 23 points behind champion Tyler Henschel of Texas A&M.

Ackman and Stefan Popov continued their success in breaststroke, as both swimmers recorded top-20 times for the second consecutive night.  Ackman finished ninth (1:59.80) and Popov placed 19th (2:04.79) in the 200-yard breaststroke.  Both freshman finished in the top 20 in the 100-yard breaststroke last night.

Ackman’s time of 1:59.80 was just 0.01 away from being a ‘B’ Standard time.

In the 1,650-yard freestyle, senior Gabriel Andonie earned a top-10 finish, touching the wall ninth with a time of 16:05.61.

The Mustangs received top-20 finishes in the 200-yard backstroke from two newcomers.  Bartosz Krzyzaniak, a freshman, placed 14th (1:48.32) and Sam Straughan, a junior transfer from Loughborough University (U.K.), finished 19th (1:50.79).

In the 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Ziga Cerkovnik registered the top time for the Mustangs, finishing 24th with a time of 46.08.

Senior Tyler Rauth and sophomore Tucker Wells finished back-to-back, 14th and 15th, respectively, in the 200-yard butterfly.  Rauth posted a time of 1:50.56 and Wells touched the wall in 1:50.93.

In the final event of the night, SMU’s team of Krzyzaniak, Ackman, Cerkovnik and Rauth finished ninth in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:01.76.

As a team, the Mustangs finished seventh with 279 points.  Stanford, ranked tenth in the country, won the invitational with 1,523 points.
