Acker Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

DALLAS (SMU) - Avery Acker was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 First Team, earning the honor for the second consecutive season. The junior setter is one of six first team selections from District 7, one of seven districts across the country, with a 3.95 GPA in business and accounting.
Acker lead the American Athletic Conference and is seventh in the NCAA, averaging 11.61 assists per set. She has 1,091 assists this season, including a career-high 62 in a five-set win against New Mexico. She also had 48 assists in a three-set win at Houston, the most by an SMU setter in a three-set match since Jessica Mihm had 50 against Cal Poly in 2004.
The Poth, Texas, native is second on the team with 301 digs, and has a league-high 20 double-doubles in 25 matches. A team captain for the second season, Acker has helped lead the Mustangs to a 20-5 record, including a program-best 11 match winning streak. The string of victories included a 3-2 win over then-No. 24 Oklahoma, the first win against a ranked opponent in program history. The Mustangs also received votes for three consecutive weeks, gaining votes in the AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll for the first time.
SMU is currently 20-5 overall and 9-4 in The American. The Mustangs have seven regular-season matches remaining, including a home match against Cincinnati in Moody Coliseum Sunday at 1 p.m.
