MINNEAPOLIS (SMU) - The SMU women's swimming and diving team closed out the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship with a 20th-place team finish and six All-America honors.

"I am proud of our team's performance this weekend," Head Coach Steve Collins said. "We had great leadership from our seniors and have set a high standard for the future."

On day one of the Championship, the 400-yard medley relay team of senior Nina Rangelova, juniors Isabella Arcila and Rachel Nicol and freshman Marne Erasmus placed 11th in the event and set a school record with a time of 3:31.66. All four student-athletes were named All-Americans.

Day two saw Erasmus, along with classmate Tara-Lynn Nicholas, earn top-eight finishes in their respective events to be named All-Americans. Erasmus, who was the previous school record holder in the 100-yard butterfly, set a new school standard with a 51.10 finish, which was good for third place. Nicholas also earned the nod, finishing eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:00.44. She also broke the SMU record in the event as she became the first Mustang to finish the event in under one minute with a 59.55 in prelims.

Today, Rangelova represented the Mustangs in the 100-yard freestyle, Nicol and Nicholas competed in the 200-yard breaststroke and Rangelova, Arcila, senior Monika Babok and junior Nathalie Lindborg competed in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

"Today we had four exciting swims where nearly all set best performances for the season," Collins said.

SMU now has 581 All-America honors under Collins. The 2014 honors marked the seventh for Rangelova, fifth for Arcila, second for Nicol, first for Nicholas and first two for Erasmus.

"Our team goal has been to finish in the top 25 at the NCAA Championships," Collins added. "It is exciting to have six swimmers returning from this NCAA Championship team."
