MEET RESULTS
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas (SMU) - The 22nd-ranked SMU cross country team repeated as champions of the UT Arlington Invitational on Saturday morning. The Mustangs dominated the 5k race, as sophomore Agnes Sjöström took first place (17.12.2) and three other Mustangs finished in the top six.
SMU topped Baylor, who finished second in the five-team field. Baylor edged the Mustangs at the Bear Twilight Invitational two weeks ago.
Juniors Shanoah Souza, Karoline Skatteboe and Holly Archer all turned in top-ten performances for SMU. Souza finished third with a time of 17.18.1, Skatteboe crossed the finished line fifth with a time of 17.20.2, and Archer grabbed sixth place, clocking in at 17.36.9.
Archer, Sjöström and Souza all set personal records with their times, while Sjöström's time of 17.12.2 is the seventh-fastest 5k time in SMU history.
Senior Janell Steigerwald, junior Claire Trotter and junior Lauren Zabaleta also competed for SMU. Trotter finished 15th (18.46.4), Zabaleta crossed the finish line 22nd (19.26.0), and Steigerwald came in 42nd place (21.29.3).
SMU will have next weekend off before heading to Denton, Texas, for the North Texas Invitational. The Mustangs won this event in 2013.
