Tournament Draws
NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) - The SMU women's tennis team concluded first round play at the Oklahoma Invitational on Friday. Junior Vaszilisza Bulgakova, sophomore Macie Elliott and sophomore Mary Wright all competed for the Mustangs.
In the Boomer Draw, Bulgakova dropped her opening round match, 7-6, 6-4, to Maureen Slattery. The junior bounced back to win her consolation match, defeating Sarah Dvorak of Texas Tech in a three set battle. Bulgakova grabbed the first set, 6-4, before Dvorak won the second, 7-5. Bulgakova then won the deciding set, 6-3, to advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket.
In the Stoops Draw, Elliott fell to Augustina Valenzuela of North Texas, 6-2, 6-2. The sophomore lost her consolation match in three sets to Rachel McNeely of Kansas. Elliott won the opening set, 6-3, but McNeely fought back to win both the second and third set, 6-1.
In the Switzer Draw, Wright won her first round match, 6-4, 6-3, over Abilene Christian's Whitney Williams. The sophomore was then ousted in the second round by Brooke Withrow of Oklahoma, 7-6, 6-1.
