Hunter Johnson Falls In The Championship Round Of Texas Regional

DALLAS (SMU) - Junior Hunter Johnson advanced to the championship round of singles play in the ITA Texas Regional Championship but fell to No. 53 Arthur Rinderknech of Texas A&M, 6-0, 6-2, Tuesday.
Prior to the finals round, Hunter Johnson defeated No. 81 Alexander Sendegeya of Texas Tech, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (5). With the win, the New Braunfels, Texas-native made it a perfect 3-0 against Red Raider opponents in this tournament.
Senior Nate Lammons dropped his singles semifinal match to Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 6-4. In doubles play, Hunter and Yates Johnson made it to the semifinals but fell to last year's NCAA Championship doubles runner-up No. 3 Felipe Soares and Hugo Dojas 7-6 (3), 6-4.
"We had a tremendous tournament in the toughest region to play in in the country," said Head Coach Carl Neufeld. "Having two individuals make it to the semifinals in singles play and one of them making it to the championship round, as well as a doubles team reaching the semifinals is an exciting way to cap off the tournament."
Up next for the Mustangs is the ITF Futures, which will take place in Birmingham, Ala. from Oct. 31 through Nov. 7.
