Heise Named The American Defensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – Morgan Heise was named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth time this season after averaging 7.0 digs per set to lead the SMU volleyball team to two wins on the road.
Heise recorded 24 digs in a three-set win at East Carolina as the Mustangs improved to 21-3 overall and 11-1 in The American, increasing their lead in the conference to three matches over second-place Temple. The junior also had 18 digs in a 3-0 win at Tulsa. With the 42 digs, Heise eclipsed 1,500 for her career, and has 504 this season, going over 500 for the second straight season.
Avery Acker was named to the weekly conference honor roll, averaging 12.33 assists. The Mustangs hit .226 as a team, and three different players reached double figures in kills, with two players scoring at least 10 at ECU. The senior is second in the country with 12.30 assists per set this season, with 1,058 assists.
The Mustangs play at Memphis Friday at 7 p.m., and conclude the four-match road stretch at Cincinnati Sunday at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
