Mustangs Increase Votes Received In AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team received 70 votes in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, which is just 28 behind No. 25 Michigan and would rank 28th overall. The Mustangs picked up a pair of 3-0 victories on the road and extended their lead in the American Athletic Conference to three matches with an 11-1 record, 21-3 overall.
Senior setter Avery Acker leads the NCAA with 12.30 assists per set, and has the Mustangs hitting .243 as a team, which is second in the conference. Juniors Janelle Giordano and Morgan Heise have the Mustangs closing in on the top ten in defensive efficiency, holding opponents to a league-low .151 attack percentage, 12th in the country.
Giordano is second in the nation in total blocks with 141.0, needing just 44 to set a single-season record at SMU. Heise ranks fourth nationally, averaging 5.68 digs per set, and is closing in on her own school record with 504 digs this season. She is only the third player in program history to record 500 digs in multiple seasons.
With its 11th consecutive win Sunday, SMU matched the longest win streak in program history, set during the 2014 season. SMU plays at Memphis Friday at 7 p.m., and concludes a four match road stretch Sunday at Cincinnati at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT.
