Acker Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team

Avery Acker was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the third time, earning a selection to the District 7 First Team with a 3.95 GPA in accounting with minors in chemistry and biology. The senior setter leads the NCAA with 12.30 assists per set, and is closing in on 4,000 assists for her career (3,897), and plans to attend medical school upon graduation.
A 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-America selection, Acker has led the Mustangs to a 21-3 record this season, and SMU has a three-match lead in the American Athletic Conference with an 11-1 record, matching the program record with an 11 match win streak.
Acker has the Mustangs hitting .243 this season, second in the conference, and three players have at least 200 kills. She also has 13 double-doubles with 263 digs this season. Acker recorded at least 60 assists in a match three times this season, including an American Athletic Conference record 67 assists in a five-set victory over rival TCU.
A native of Poth, Texas, Acker has been named conference Player of the Week twice, and became the first player at SMU to be named AVCA National Player of the Week. The Mustangs play at Memphis Friday at 7 p.m. and at Cincinnati Sunday at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT. SMU returns to Moody Coliseum for matches against Tulane and Houston Nov. 13 and 15.
